The Mozambican State Stakeholding Management Institute (IGEPE), a government entity that manages public companies, plans to appoint a commission to temporarily manage Mozambican flagship airline LAM, a source from the state carrier told Lusa on Friday.
The source said that the decision follows the dissolution of the Board of Directors of LAM, decided on Thursday at an extraordinary general meeting, called to discuss the current situation of the company.
In a statement published on Friday, IGEPE said the single issue on the agenda of the extraordinary general was the company’s current situation.
On Tuesday, about 300 passengers intending to travel from Maputo to the cities of Beira and Nampula were left on the ground due to a lack of fuel on LAM’s planes, after oil companies cut supplies to the airline.
The Minister of Transport and Communications, Carlos Mesquita, told the press on Thursday that the cut in fuel supplies was because of LAM’s payment difficulties.
Earlier in the year, the flagship airline cancelled flights due to a lack of fuel.
