The Mozambican government on Tuesday approved the creation of two new private higher education institutions.
Speaking to reporters after the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers (Cabinet), the government spokesperson, Deputy Health Minister Mouzinho Saide, explained that this will pave the way for the opening of the Higher Institute for Business and Technological Sciences (ISCET) and the Diogo Eugenio Guilande Technical University (UTDEG).
ISCET is being set up by DWS Consulting Limited whilst UTDEG is being formed by SBM Investments Limited. UTDEG was named after Diogo Eugenio Guilande, an academic who died in 2010. He was one of the co-founders of the College of Business and Management.
The Council of Ministers also approved new regulations on private employment agencies. Saide stated that the new regulations define the general principles for the management of these agencies. The changes adapt the regulations to the economy’s current requirements and are linked to the employment needs of large scale projects.
The Cabinet also received a report on the performance of the transport sector in the first half of the year. It revealed that rail passenger traffic has increased due to the introduction of a further seventy carriages to the southern and central rail network.
Lastly, the meeting heard a report from President Filipe Nyusi about his working visits to the northern and central provinces of Niassa, Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Tete and Zambezia.
