Governor of Nampula, Manuel Rodrigues Alberto, on Saturday (July 31) visited a factory which produces medical oxygen gas, essential in the fight against Covid-19.
Manuel Rodrigues learned from manager Graciano Maurício that Mediquip SP could produce about 1,358m3 of oxygen per day with a purity of 98%, and has a total of four workers – one foreign and three Mozambicans.
The governor also learned that the plant has been operating for over two years and that it is planning to supply all the hospitals in the northern region of the country (Nampula, Cabo-Delgado and Niassa). In fact, it has the ability to supply medical oxygen for the fight against Covid-19 countrywide.
And in addition to the production of medical oxygen, Governor Rodrigues heard, the company produces mineral water. Although the water plant is closed because of the pandemic, nobody has lost their job, and wages have continued to be paid.
According to Graciano Maurício, “With the current pandemic that the country is facing, Mediquip SP turned to the production of medical gaseous oxygen, and, in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, planned also to produce liquid medical oxygen to supply hospitals, and thus support the National Health System”.
The company manager told Governor Rodrigues that Nampula Central Hospital consumes 1.5m3 of medical gaseous oxygen per day, all supplied by the company.
Speaking to the press, Manuel Rodrigues said that the medical oxygen production plant was undoubtedly a plus for Nampula province at a time when the province and the country in general were suffering a third wave of the pandemic.
Governor Rodrigues underlined that the Covid-19 treatment centre had been in need of medical oxygen, making clear the unquestionable impact of the factory in reducing hospital deaths, as well as the possibility of placing smaller, lighter oxygen cylinders in ambulances.
