The chairman of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), Agostinho Vuma, announced today that the Mozambican government had agreed to pay debts to suppliers who had no formal contracts to supply.
According to Vuma, final adjustments are under way, and payments are expected to be made before the end of the year.
These are debts incurred between 2007 and 2017, which by last year amounted to a total of about 29.7 billion meticais. The government had committed to paying only about 19.5 billion of this amount, allegedly because the remainder had violated a number of administrative procedures, having, for example, no formal contracts to back them up.
