Mozambique wants to reinforcement cooperation with Portugal, as Mozambique’s prime minister, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, told Lusa on Monday during a visit to Portugal’s Pavilion at the Mozambique International Fair.
Portugal has “a good presence” in the event “which attests to the historic ties of friendship and cooperation”, he referred.
“We want that cooperation to strengthen and result in more job opportunities for Mozambicans”, he added.
The PM attended Mozambique’s main business fair inauguration, as he did in 2017, and said he noticed differences.
“There are substantial differences, especially in the environment that we live in. The macroeconomic indicators improved”, he referred.
Carlos Agostinho do Rosário also highlighted that “after several years of declining direct investment from Portugal, there was a slight rise in 2017”.
Portugal’s secretary of state for internationalisation, Eurico Brilhante Dias, said that the awareness of Mozambique’s priorities was deepened, in agricultural and energy areas, and steps had been taken to achieve what was considered last year’s priority: “bring trade investment between Portugal and Mozambique to another level” adding that Portugal had the biggest presence in the fair.
Portugal’s pavilion, organised by the Portuguese Industrial Association (AIP) and the Portuguese Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (AICEP), represents 24 companies and there are others with their own areas in the fair.
The two institutions that organise Portugal’s presence at FACIM have said on Monday that they believe in the recovery of Mozambique’s economy
Eurico Brilhante Dias is visiting Mozambique until Saturday and his programme also includes several institutional meetings with different ministers. He also added keeping in his agenda points that Portugal’s entrepreneurs would like to see improved,
“Points that I addressed last year and that I will address again this year”, he noted.
It is also in the agenda a visit to Nampula province to seek for opportunities associated with the Nampula-Nacala train corridor and meetings with entrepreneurs from Portugal that operate in the region.
