The government of Mozambique is revising the National Strategic Plan for HIV/Aids to help the country to reduce the number of new infections from 130,000 to 70,000, the Mozambican deputy minister of health said.
João Leopoldo said that 150 HIV, tuberculosis and hepatitis specialists are involved in revising the plan.
“The strategic plan’s main goals are to reduce the impact of HIV by sexual transmission by 50% by 2020,” Leopoldo said.
The action aims to measure the level of compliance with the plans and to identify the progress achieved and good practices in the response of HIV/Aids, he added.
Leopoldo also said that the plan aims to reduce the transmission of HIV/Aids from mothers to infants to less than 5% and disease-related mortality by 49% until 2020 and the elimination of the stigma and discrimination.
