The Mozambican government is expected to invest a total of US$40 million in ongoing reforestation programmes.
The value is subdivided into four projects, two in the form of donations and the other two, loans.
Following the conclusion of the 21st Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers yesterday, spokeswoman Ana Comoana said that the funding would be channelled mainly through the forest investment programme.
Comoana, who is also Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, said that the financing agreements between the government and the World Bank arranged through the International Development Association had been signed in May.
“All of them are aimed at promoting and financing projects in the field of land and forestry,” she said.
In addition to the sustainable exploitation and commercialization of timber, the reforestation program places priority on combating deforestation.
Comoana added that US$22 million was destined for the Strategic Climate Fund, while the remainder was for forestry investment projects.
