Mozambique expects to get $83.4 million (€73.4 million) from the auction of frequencies to mobile telecommunications operators held in November, the state announced on Monday.
“The payment of the first instalment, corresponding to 34% of the value, should occur at the time of assignment of the frequencies and the remaining payments, corresponding to 33% each, will take place in the years 2019 and 2020 respectively,” the National Communications Institute has announced.
The current Mozambican mobile operators, Vodacom, Movitel and state-owned Mcel participated in the auction.
“Lots in the 1800 MHz and 2.6 GHz bands were deserted because there were no bids, and the only auctioned track was 800 MHz,” he added.
The National Telecommunications Institute of Mozambique (INCM) source had already explained to Lusa that the auction of new frequencies was aimed at introducing new voice and data services, such as 4G connections.
