Three weeks ago, President Nyusi announced during a visit to Mozambique Airlines (LAM) that the company could not continue in its present state. Now, the Mozambican prime minister has announced that the government wants to improve national carrier LAM’s operational capacity.
In this Wednesday Q & A session in Parliament, Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário addressed the restructuring of state-owned companies and revealed that a partner was being sought for LAM.
But it was for the Minister of Economy and Finance to give more details. Adriano Maleiane therefore announced that, because of the nature of LAM’s problems, this was the best way of improving the company’s performance.
Also regarding air transport, Maleiane said that the process of granting nine airports was under way so that Airports of Mozambique could concentrate on managing the main airports.
Last week, the Civil Aviation Institute of Mozambique launched a public tender for the operation of national and international routes as a means of drawing the private sector’s attention to opportunities in national airspace.
