The government has decided to reduce fuel prices, a measure that should come into effect from midnight [Mozambique time] on Thursday (19).
In a statement sent to AIM today, the Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE) reported that gasoline has reduced by 2.25 meticais (0.03 dollars, at the exchange rate of the day) from the current 85.82 meticais per liter to 83.57 meticais per liter, which corresponds to a drop of 2.62 percent on the previous price.
Diesel has reduced by 6.91 meticais per liter, from the current 86.79 meticais per liter to 79.88 meticais per liter, a difference of 6.91 meticais, which represents a 7.96 percent change on the previous price.
The price of lighting oil was reduced by 2.49 meticais per liter, from the current 69.35 meticais per liter to 66.86 meticais per liter.
Vehicle Natural Gas (NGV) was also reduced from the current 42.40 meticais per liter equivalent to 41.11 meticais per liter equivalent.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), better known as cooking gas, kept its price at 86.05 meticais per kilo.
The new prices refer to sales to the public at fuel stations located in the territorial districts with distribution terminals in the cities of Maputo, Matola (southern province of Maputo), Beira (central province of Sofala), Nacala (northern Nampula) and Pemba (northern Cabo Delgado).
On the other hand, the reduction in fuel costs comes within the scope of measures taken by the Mozambican Executive, which aims to reduce the cost of living in the country.
