The Council of Ministers, meeting in its fourth session in Maputo on Tuesday, ratified framework agreements for cooperation in the field of defence with Turkey and Kenya, as well as a cooperation agreement with the defence industry in Turkey.
Session’s spokesperson Ludovina Bernardo noted that the agreement with Turkey was signed in Ankara in September, 2023. The cooperation agreement with Kenya was signed last August in Maputo.
The Council of Ministers session also approved the regulation on fire protection in buildings and premises, a document that standardises fire prevention construction rules.
Bernardo explained that it was necessary to better define forms of assistance to be compatible with the National Public Safety Service (SENSAP), the entity responsible for fire protection in Mozambique.
“This regulation will better guide fire protection measures in different sectors,” Bernando explained.
The fire protection standards apply to all buildings and premises, public administration bodies and institutions, and natural and legal persons both public and private throughout the national territory.
“We are talking about housing, industrial, commercial complexes, hospitals, schools, among others, and, with the approval of this regulation, we will eliminate the disparities that were observed in each of the agents that designed construction projects for these projects,” Bernando explained.
The Council of Ministers also considered the licensing and operation of private employment agencies and port labour companies for the four-year period 2020-2023, Bernardo reporting that the authorities processed a total of 91 licensing applications for private agencies and three for port labour companies.
As a result, at least 63 permits had already been issued, while the rest are still being processed.
“As a result of these interventions, private employment agencies created around 44,869 jobs in different sectors of activity during this period,” Bernardo concluded.
