The Mozambican government is not ruling out the possibility of declaring state of emergency in the province of Cabo Delgado, in response to the new wave of terrorist attacks and threats there. The situation will be assessed by the executive at the next session of the Council of Ministers this Tuesday (27-02), RFI reported on Friday.
For Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane, declaring a state of alert is also a possible response to the current situation in Cabo Delgado.
“We in the coordination council saw what we are going to have to do, for example the warning declaration, so we will discuss in the Council of Ministers session which is the best option but, until that happens, we are on the ground, the INGD is on the ground working, so that at least humanitarian issues can be addressed,” Prime Minister Maleiane said.
For now, Adriano Maleiane has launched an appeal to the international community to respond to the needs caused by the new wave of displaced people from the terrorist attacks, mostly now safely in Namapa district, Nampula province.
“Resources are never enough. You know we are prepared for the rainy season, now this will require, as I said, additional support,” the prime minister said.

By Friday, data confirmed by government authorities indicate that more than 20,000 displaced people had been received in Nampula province alone in recent days and, in the Chiúre district headquarters in Cabo Delgado, there were already over 9,000 IDPs.
