The Mozambican Council of Ministers yesterday named Faruco Sadique Ibraimo chairman of the board of directors of Mozambique’s public television channel TVM.
“The government approved the resolution appointing Faruco Sadique Ibraimo as chairman of the Mozambican Television Board (TVM),” Augusto de Sousa Fernando announced after yesterday’s session.
Faruco Sadique Ibraimo, who is currently chairman of the Board of Directors of Radio Mozambique, replaces former Minister of Industry and Commerce Armando Inroga, who was removed from office earlier this month after being appointed to the position in February of this year.
In May, TVM broadcast as authentic a video of supposed members of an armed group which would have beheaded ten people on that month, but the video was found to have been circulating on YouTube since January. In the video, armed men claim last October’s attacks in Mocímboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado, in Allah’s name. The episode led to the suspension of the channel’s information director, an editor, and the journalist who wrote item, but the measure was lifted a few hours later.
