Mozambique: Government meets with South African-owned companies

The Government of Mozambique, represented by the Ministries of Industry and Commerce, Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Transport and Communication, recently met with representatives of South African-owned companies operating in the country.
The meeting aimed to assess the impact on economic activities in the face of the current situation in the country, marked by a wave of vandalism of industrial and commercial enterprises. On the occasion, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Silvino Moreno, highlighted that a security corridor had been created to prevent the vandalism of commercial establishments, in coordination with the Defence and Security Forces.
Following the demonstrations, South African investors in Mozambique reported significant losses, including the vandalism of their establishments and the retention of goods at the port of Maputo. They therefore created a group to manage and mitigate risks resulting from the post-election demonstrations, which monitors operations on a daily basis.
Many companies use the Maputo Corridor and receive their products, raw materials and finished products from the Ressano Garcia border.
The group also has the role of managing the use of the Corridor.
