The proposal for the 2018 Mozambique State Plan and Budget has already been deposited in the Assembly of the Republic by the government, a parliamentary source has told Lusa.
The document is in the office of Speaker Verónica Macamo, before going to the parliamentary Planning and Budget Committee at a date yet to be announced, at which time it will be distributed to deputies.
The proposal was approved by the Council of Ministers on 21 September.
The Mozambican government expects to reduce the budget deficit from 10.7 percent of gross domestic product in 2017 to 9.7 percent in 2018, leaving open a range of external financing agreements.
The State Budget for 2018 foresees an expenditure of 300.7 billion meticais and revenues of 222.8 billion, that is, a deficit of 77 million meticais (EUR 1 million).
Improving revenue collection, containing public spending and reforming the business sector are key phrases in the Frelimo government’s budget announcement.
