Mia Couto calls for a more inclusive dialogue in Mozambique after general elections
The ministry of education and human development of Mozambique (MINEDH) on Tuesday announced in Maputo the creation of a loan grant that will allow the state to finance studies on condition of reimbursement after training.
Octávio de Jesus, director of the Mozambican Institute of Scholarships (IBE), told public radio station Radio Mozambique that the institution will pay for the training of Mozambican higher education students inside and outside the country.
The cost of the scholarship will then be reimbursed through part of the salary or other income that the beneficiary receives in his professional activity.
The initiative will focus on students with financial needs, aiming to correspond to the spirit of equal opportunities in access to education.
Octávio de Jesus said that the details of the programme still have to be defined by the ministry as the current government – the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo), in power since the country’s independence in 1975 – is at the end of its mandate.
The measure is announced at a time when the campaign for the general elections is taking place, scheduled for 15 October.
