Mozambique’s Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Amilton Alissone, said that the rescheduling of flights by Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) this Monday due to malfunction of the company’s planes was a one-off situation, and work was in progress to guarantee air travel over the festive season.
The government official was reacting to the chaos experienced by more than 100 LAM passengers who on Monday morning saw their flights cancelled with no certainty of rescheduling.
Alissone explained that the incident had already been addressed, and the company had a strategy to prevent similar situations from happening again.
“The government is currently selecting the available options, based on studies carried out by the World Bank, so that we can define the best model for managing the company. Nothing is decided yet. Meetings are taking place, and I think that, in the first quarter of next year, we will be in a better position to define the path we are going to take with LAM,” Deputy Minister Alissone said.
Asked about the possibility of privatising LAM, Alissone said that no decision had been taken.
