Mozambique’s government debt at the end of 2017, excluding guarantees, was 661 billion meticals (€9.5 billion), which is equivalent to around 81.8% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) the government said on Monday.
The government debt in dollars increased by about 10,0% and internal debt rose by 21%, mas, but overall this item in the budget in 2017 fell 5.7% because of the valuation of Mozambique’s currency, the metical, which went from around 70 to the dollar in the first five months to roughly 60 to the dollar in the rest of the year.
At the end of 2017, about 555 billion meticals (€8 billion) was foreign debt and 107 billion meticals (€1.5 billion) was internal debt.
