The National Communications Institute of Mozambique (INCM), the sector’s regulatory body, has just created the Telecommunications Traffic Control Unit (UCTT), the agency announced yesterday in a statement.
In addition to being responsible for the control of telecommunications traffic, UCTT will also manage the registration of mobile phone cards and the protection and security of telecommunications networks.
“UCTT will manage and keep the register of subscribers of telecommunications services up to date and keep updated the solutions that aim to constantly improve the quality of subscriber registration data, in coordination with the operators,” the statement reads.
The new entity will monitor communications on operators’ networks, guarantee data protection for telecommunications users and act, whenever necessary, to protect telecommunications networks against possible cyber attacks on national interests and critical infrastructures.
The unit will also monitor, audit and inspect compliance with the provisions of the Registration Regulations and Activation of the Mobile Telephone Service Subscriber Identification Modules (SIM Cards), telecommunications network security and telecommunications traffic control.
