The President of the Republic asserts that the government is committed to enhancing environmental sanitation in the major cities of the country, a proactive response to the burgeoning population density in these areas.
Filipe Nyusi highlights that one of the key interventions in this regard is the construction of infrastructure to address wastewater and solid waste management, challenges that are increasingly complex.
Speaking on Wednesday at the inauguration of the Infulene Wastewater Treatment Plant in the province of Maputo, the Head of State emphasized that beyond the gains in sanitation, such infrastructures foster inclusivity.
Nyusi further announced that the cities of Beira, Nampula, Quelimane, and Tete may be next in line to benefit from large-scale sanitation infrastructure projects.
In the rehabilitation of the station inaugurated yesterday by the President in Infulene, 203 farmers operating in the vicinity were relocated and duly compensated.
The infrastructure underwent reconstruction at an investment of approximately $16.6 million disbursed by the government with support from the World Bank. It has been equipped with flood management mechanisms to tackle intense rainfall, potentially benefiting around 128,000 inhabitants.
