The government will continue to seek solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with a view to helping make a greater contribution to the economy through the diversification of production and job creation.
The commitment was reiterated this Friday in Maputo by Mozambique’s Minister of Public Works, Water Resources and Housing, Carlos Mesquita, at the opening of the 2nd National Conference of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Among the priorities is the approval of the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Law, which should mitigate the main obstacles as currently identified, and also provide access to financing at sustainable costs.
Minister Mesquita also highlighted the promotion of access and integration in new markets consequent on global digital transition.
“The government remains committed to finding solutions to improve MSMEs’ access to financing, since, in addition to enabling the viability of business initiatives, it also has a positive impact on improving the business environment,” the minister said.

The event, which was held under the motto “Boosting Development by Strengthening Local Industry for the Empowerment of MSMEs”, was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, through the Institute for the Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (IPEME-IP).

The session aimed to analyse national policies and strategies supporting the development of MSMEs in the country and to boost the participation of MSMEs in the development of local industry.
