The Mozambican government approved new minimum wages for the eight sectors of activity, excluding the Public Service, after a consensus reached at the Labour Consultative Commission, the tripartite negotiating forum between the government, the employers and the trade unions.
The announcement was made by the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Security, Rolinho Farnela, at the usual press briefing, minutes after the end of the 13th ordinary session of the Council of Ministers, which took place on Tuesday (30) in Maputo.
The salary increase varies between 200 meticais and 1,720.47 meticais.
As usual, the new wages are backdated to 1 April. The increases are only for workers on the minimum wage. All wages above the minimum are negotiated through collective bargaining between employers and unions, workplace by workplace.

Farnela said that the new salaries “reflect the economic and social moment that the country is going through”, pointing to the foci of terrorist attacks in some districts of Cabo Delgado province, in the north of the country, as well as the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The Deputy Minister acknowledged that these salary increases were “not what is desirable, but what is possible”.
Debates on salary adjustments in the eight sectors of activity started at the beginning of March this year.
