yesterday at the 19th edition of the Biodiversity Conservation Awards, in the category of World Biodiversity Conservation.
According to the BBVA Foundation jury, the award was bestowed on Gorongosa National
Park for the successful restoration of the park, with “notable results in the conservation of large mammal species, such as elephant, lion, buffalo and antelope”.
It also highlighted “the challenges of carrying out this conservation work in a country that is still recovering from the devastation of 16 years of war. The successes achieved in Gorongosa represent a source of inspiration for other African nations”.
