Mozambique is one of the African countries that will benefit from an investment of US$2 billion by France in environmental conservation, the French Minister of the Environment, Energy and Sustainable Development Ségolène Royal, announced in Maputo on Friday, August 5, according to Noticias ao Minuto.
Royal spoke to journalists on the side-lines of a meeting with President Filipe Nyusi.
The French Minister said the funds were intended specifically for projects in renewable energy, sustainable tourism and exploitation of resources, particularly fishing.
The funding was announced in December last year by the French head of state, Francois Holande, as the country’s contribution to a US$10 billion fund from the international community in the area of environmental protection in Africa within the framework of the commitments made at the Paris Climate Summit.
