German cooperation has spent over €17 million in Mozambique to mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, a statement said on Monday.
“The German government has already provided more than €17 million for the mitigation of the effects of Covid-19, through projects already underway in the country in the light of German cooperation in the areas of education, good governance, sustainable economic development, energy and biodiversity and through the World Food Programme”.
Among the measures is guaranteed minimum income funding for around 130,000 people over a three-month period, support for ranger salaries for 10 months and the creation of 400 jobs over 10 months in the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area.
Other actions include outreach and awareness-raising, the purchase of protective materials for professionals and the population, the purchase of solar-powered sewing machines and raw materials to create income.
The most recent support was given in the form of computer equipment to the Ministry of Education, which is trying to boost forms of distance learning in the face of the disruption of much of the school year.
“As an EU member, Germany is directly involved in the EU’s contribution to mitigating the humanitarian consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic in Mozambique,” the statement said.
