The fourth edition of the Generation Galp programme attracted applications from all provinces in the country and from many diaspora communities. Galp’s reputation as an employer of excellence is further demonstrated by its recent distinction, for the third consecutive year, as an Elite Employer.
Around 2,620 young Mozambicans responded to the challenge launched by Galp to submit applications to Generation Galp, the programme that, over the last four years, has been the main tool for identifying, attracting and developing a new generation of talent to work for the multinational energy sector.
The programme is aimed at recent graduates in the areas of IT, Management, Marketing, Engineering, Economics and Accounting and Finance. The selected trainees will join Galp’s operations in Maputo and Beira, with access to practical experience in different areas of the company, specialised training, volunteering activities and the development of their own projects focused on solutions to business challenges.
The next stage of the selection process includes assessments, group dynamics and interviews, culminating in the trainees’ integration in Portugal, where they will join young people from other countries where Galp operates, such as Brazil, Spain, Cape Verde and Portugal itself. During this stage, participants will also have the opportunity to visit strategic units of the company, such as the Sines refinery, reinforcing their understanding of the international energy sector.
A company driven by its people
This growing enthusiasm among young people starting out in their careers comes at the same time that Galp Moçambique has been recognised for the third consecutive year as an Elite Employer by Tempus Global Group, a certification that recognises the best companies to work for in the country. The award highlights Galp’s exemplary practices in valuing people, creating opportunities for growth and its commitment to a healthy, inclusive and innovative work environment.
“We are creating a true destination for talent: a place where people grow with purpose, where each person is valued and respected,” says Marlena Chambule, Director of People, Communication and Social Impact at Galp Mozambique. “Being recognised as an Elite Employer and one of the Top 10 Best Companies to Work for in Mozambique, while thousands of young people want to be part of Galp, are two strong signs that we are on the right track,” she concludes.
Galp is committed to young Mozambican talent and its workforce is proof of this. The company currently has a team of over 2,000 employees in Mozambique, of which 1,900 are assigned to service stations and service areas and approximately 150 in the commercial and business support areas. In this last group, the average age is 41 years old, with 35% of professionals between 23 and 35 years old.
One of Galp’s strategic pillars, Powered by People, is reflected in the many, varied efforts that the firm has made to provide the best working conditions for its greatest resource, its people.
