The province of Gaza expects to catch and sell more than 24,700 tons of various fish in the current financial year. The quantity represents a growth of around 12% over the previous year, with aquaculture contributing more than 2,6000 tons of the product.
The data was shared by the governor of Gaza this Friday in the fishing area of Cubo, Massingir district, at the opening of the 2025 fishing campaign in the province.
Margarida Mapanzene Chongo indicated that fishing could yield fishermen 1.7 million meticais, contributing to the income, food and nutritional security of families. The Gaza Provincial Executive Council plans to license 2,500 sets of fishing gear this year, at a time when the watchword is sustainable fishing and the rational use of marine resources.
Governor Chongo used the occasion to call on fishermen to help combat the use of harmful fishing gear.
