There continue to be severe gasoline shortages in the city of Tete. For a week now, the situation has been causing chaos in the provincial capital, with long queues and disorder at the only gas station in the city with fuel available.
During today’s rounds, ‘Notícias Online’ found that fuel was being made available in alternating fashion, being for sale at a different gas station each day.
The situation creates constraints for drivers, who have been forced to take time off work to queue of fuel, as well as harming the business of motorcycle taxi drivers and “txopelistas”.
Although the Mozambican Oil Importer (IMOPETRO) guarantees that there is no shortage of fuel in the country, managers of the gas stations in Tete told Notícias that the bottleneck was at the Port of Beira, in Sofala province, which is where their trucks load up with fuel.
