A group of about five individuals last night attempted to break into the house of renowned Mozambican musician Momade Ali Faque in the Muahivire neighbourhood of Nampula city.
Ali Faque says that he has been receiving verbal and telephone threats since he joined the Renamo party last year.
According to the musician, who is also a member of the Municipal Council for Culture, he was saved from the worst by the prompt intervention of his neighbours, who put the group of more than five individuals to flight.
“It was around 7:00 p.m. that the group of about five individuals showed up at my house. When I screamed, the neighbours came and they fled,” Ali Faque said.
Ali Faque currently serves as Director of Culture in Nampula Municipality [led by Renamo], and says he has been receiving anonymous threats recently. He has however not submitted any complaint to the authorities, and says that he is safe.
Social media has this morning been rife with “reports” that Ali Faque had been assaulted and was hovering between life and death.
