Approximately two tonnes (1894kg) of various basic food products were collected by Galp volunteers and donated to the SOS Children’s Village in Maputo city. The action, which materializes the commitment of Galp’s employees to the community, follows the third edition of the initiative “Every step counts”, which aims to convert into meals any kilometre travelled by Galp’s employees recorded through an application.
With the provision of these products, Galp intends to support access to quality food, nutritious and essential to the healthy development of the children of Aldeias SOS.
“Promoting the well-being of the communities where we operate is very important to us, and all Galp employees are giving part of their working time to voluntarily contribute to a better society,” said Paulo Varela, CEO of Galp Mozambique.
The donation delivery was accompanied by a visit by Galp employees to the facilities of SOS Children’s Villages, in order to learn about the work and day-to-day life of the shelter. On site, Galp members also had the opportunity to socialize with children and “mothers” of the family homes.
“We were very pleased with Galp’s contribution. This food will help in the family management of each home where they had the opportunity to visit today. For us, the most important thing is the well-being of the children that passes in the first place by the healthy food and quality education provided”, shared the National Director of Programs of Aldeias SOS, Ailton Muchave.
The corporate social responsibility action is also replicated in other countries where Galp operates. In Mozambique, the initiative has already taken nearly four tons of food products and other goods to hundreds of people affected by hunger and food insecurity.
In 2021, the “Todos passos contam” project in partnership with Associação Filadélfia, through its Rice, Beans and Fish program, guaranteed more than two tons of basic food among other products for the distribution of one thousand daily meals for orphaned children in nine points in the province of Sofala.
And in 2022, in a joint action between Galp and the Makobo Platform, through the Solidarity Heart Mission program, almost two tons of food and diverse products were donated for the preparation of meals served to victims displaced by the insurgency in Cabo Delgado.
