Frelimo Secretary General Roque Silva Samuel met religious leaders in Maputo this Monday to thank them for their contributions to the party’s election manifesto.
Silva also thanked the religious leaders for the active way in which they had participated in the electoral process, marshalling opinions with a view to building a common development agenda.
Silva explained that the meeting was part of the focusing of dialogue with stakeholders, the better to understand how Frelimo and President Filipe Nyusi might respond to expectations created by the party’s victory in the October 2019 elections.
“We won the elections to serve and solve the people’s problems. We are talking to different segments of society in order to understand what their ideas are, so that they can lead us to safely implement the electoral commitments,” he said.

Roque Silva stressed that the victory in the October 15 election was a challenge to his party, while providing unequivocal proof of Mozambicans’ confidence in Frelimo as their legitimate guide.
“We do not consider this victory to be the end of a mission. Quite the contrary, it is the beginning of a long journey, and we believe that, by working together, we can make a difference,” Silva said.
In reply, the religious leaders expressed satisfaction with the work of Frelimo and its president, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, and pledged their full support for the development programme of the current five-year mandate.
