The member of the Frelimo Political Commission and Chief of the Assistance Brigade to the Province of Niassa, Aires Ali, has called for solidarity among Mozambicans in providing multifaceted assistance to those displaced by the terrorist attacks in Cabo Delgado.
Aires Ali also appealed to those displaced to redouble their vigilance and denounce any strange movement, given that terrorists being sought by the Defence and Security Forces may attempt to infiltrate themselves amongst them.
He noted that Frelimo and the government were providing assistance in the form of food for those [displaced population, while reiterating the need for other types of assistance. The population of Niassa, in particular, had a duty to help alleviate the suffering of their neighbours, he said.
“Vigilance cannot be only in relation to those who may infiltrate the group of displaced families in order to carry out military reconnaissance, but also, and permanently, in relation to all manoeuvres promoting political and social destabilisation in communities,” Ali said.
The Niassa provincial delegation of the National Institute for the Management of Natural Disasters (INGC) has registered 166 people, including 104 children of both sexes and four elderly people, as having fled terrorist action in the northern districts of Cabo Delgado and currently living in Lichinga, Lago, Maúa and Sanga.
The member of the Political Committee of Frelimo is working for two weeks in the districts of Niassa province, at the head of a group of deputies drawn from the majority bench in Assembly of the Republic and working to boost solidarity in favour of those displaced by the attacks in Cabo Delgado.
“We need to mobilise support of various kinds but, fundamentally, of shelter, to alleviate the suffering of displaced people. In this context, we will work in close coordination with the population to coordinate efforts for the success of the campaign to mobilise support in the districts. We want to alert people to all acts aimed at slowing the development of our country, including attacks in the corridor linking the provinces of Manica and Tete, in the centre of the country, by armed groups led by Mariano Nhongo,” Aires Ali said.
