Mozambique: Chapo challenges deputy general commander to strengthen police integrity - AIM

The Mozambique Liberation Front party (Frelimo) is mourning the passing of Fernando Faustino, Secretary-General of the Association of Combatants of the National Liberation Struggle (ACLLN), one of the main governing bodies of the ruling party, Frelimo. Faustino died in the early hours of this Saturday, November 23.
A family source told ‘Carta de Moçambique’ that Faustino died in South Africa, to where he had been evacuated after suffering a stroke a few weeks ago. Initially, the member of the Frelimo Political Commission had been admitted to the Maputo Private Hospital.
In addition to being Secretary-General of ACLLN, he was also an Administrator at the Mozambican Hydrocarbon Company (CMH), a private company majority owned by the parastatal Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH).
He was married to the current Minister of Education and Human Development, Carmelita Namashulua.
Fernando Francisco Faustino was born on 3 March, 1957, in the village of Inhangoma, Mutarara district, Tete province.
He became a member of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo) at a very early age, joining as a student on 22 May, 1965, and completed his primary education at the Tunduru Educational Centre in Tanzania.
From 1971, he trained in Nachingwea, and then carried out various tasks in the province of Cabo Delgado, before being incorporated into the 3rd company of the battalion for political-military training.
Nine months later, he returned to the Frelimo Secondary School in Bagamoyo, Tanzania.
From 1972 to 1974, he undertook various roles in the liberated areas of Cabo Delgado, namely in the educational centres of Nangade and the Beira base, as well as performing other tasks.
Fernando Faustino had been the secretary-general of ACLLN since 2014 and, at the time of his death, was serving his third term as head of the organization.
