Frelimo salutes and encourages women in the Defence and Security Forces (FDS) to continue the fight against terrorism in the province of Cabo Delgado side by side with the men, and likewise to neutralise the actions of the self-proclaimed Renamo Military Junta in the provinces of Manica and Sofala.
This encouragement coincides with the celebration of the ‘Women’s Detachment Day, marked in the country today, the occasion for Frelimo to encourage the whole of the FDS to continue to deal hard blows to the enemies of the Mozambican homeland.
Likewise, all forces of society and citizens are urged to continue to support the victims of the terrorist attacks in the north of Cabo Delgado and of the Renamo Military Junta in the centre of the country.
A press release sent to the ‘Notícias’ newsroom recalls that it was 54 years ago that a group of combatants in the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique decided to create Frelimo’s ‘Female Detachment, to accelerate the armed conflict.
Frelimo notes that the celebrations take place in unusual circumstances because of the harmful and deadly effects of the new coronavirus, calling on Mozambicans to continue to observe all Covid-19 prevention measures.
On the same note, the ruling party congratulates the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, on his diplomatic efforts in securing the recent arrival in Mozambique of the vaccine against the new coronavirus.
“Frelimo expresses feelings of affection for the health professionals who daily struggle to save the lives of our fellow citizens,” the statement reads.
The communique notes that combatants of the Women’s Detachment are engaged in essential activities such as education, health services, food production, transport of material and the care for orphaned children.
This affirmation of women created the foundations of their emancipation, with women standing out for the heroic deeds that constitute the legacy of the Women’s Detachment.
