The Frelimo Congress, the party’s most important meeting, starts on Friday in the city of Matola, Maputo province. This will be the 12th Congress that the party in power has held since its creation in 1962.
Delegations to the event start arriving tomorrow, Tuesday.
The Congress, to be led by Frelimo president Filipe Nyusi, will bring together at least 1,500 participants, including national and foreign congressional representatives and guests. The delegates from Niassa province will be the first to arrive at the Frelimo Party School in Matola, Maputo province, followed by those from Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Zambézia provinces.
The last delegates to arrive are expected the day before Congress starts.
According to information provided to Domingo by a source in the organisation of the event, the delegations from Nampula and Zambézia will be the most numerous, with 90 members, while the remaining provinces will not exceed 80 participants.
The Congress is the highest body of the Frelimo party, and defines the major national development options to be enshrined in the party’s five-year program.
