Mozambique: Frelimo Central Committee session starts today

The third session of the Frelimo Central Committee (CC), the party’s most important deliberative body between congresses, takes place today and tomorrow, in Matola.
The body has 250 members representing all Frelimo’s provincial committees and social organizations, including the Association of Combatants of the National Liberation Struggle, the Organization of Mozambican Women and the Organization of Mozambican Youth.
According to the agenda announced on February 27, the Central Committee will discuss the reports from the Political Commission, the Verification Committee (the party’s disciplinary body), and the Central Office for the Preparation of the Presidential, Legislative, and Provincial Assembly Elections scheduled for October.
The meeting will also review and discuss the reports on the 2024 activities plan and budget, among other issues.
Although not on the agenda for this session, there is some anticipation among members and supporters of the ruling party about a possible discussion around the profile of the Frelimo presidential candidate for the upcoming election.
