Mozambique: Third edition of the festival de teatro Cenas Curtas starts next week

Mozambican saxophonist Moreira Chonguiça has been awarded the Order of Knight of Arts and Letters by France. He will officially receive the award next week in a ceremony at the Residence de França in Maputo.
The distinction, awarded to individuals who stand out for their work in the cultural space, recognizes the artistic work developed by Chonguiça in Mozambique, Africa and, in particular, France.
The decoration represents an important recognition of Chonguiça’s career, The musician has established himself as one of the most talented and influential saxophonists today.
His music, which combines elements of jazz, traditional Mozambican music and other styles, has won a global audience. He has performed in several countries.
Chonguiça’s work has been instrumental in promoting Mozambican culture abroad, and his dedication to music has inspired new generations of artists.

Chonguiça joins a select group of Mozambican artists who have received the Order of Knight of Arts and Letters, including Malangatana, Ricardo Rangel, Mia Couto, Elisa Domingas Jamisse (Mingas) and Quito Tembe.
Moreira Chonguiça’s decoration ceremony will be held at the French Residence in Maputo, in the presence of French and Mozambican authorities, as well as the artist’s family, friends and colleagues.
