Four seafarers are now known to have died after a crew boat capsized alongside a Scorpio-managed tanker off Mozambique.
Another three crew members due to sign on to the 50,000-dwt Sea Quest (built 2012) remain missing at the Beira anchorage, as well as two contractors.
The accident happened last week as service vessel Cara carried 12 seafarers, four contractors and five of its own crew to the MR tanker, according to manager Scorpio Marine Management.
Five tanker crew members were rescued.
Search and rescue operations for the missing persons are continuing in the area, in coordination with the local authorities.
Initial information from the management company last week indicated seven people were missing after the incident.
Teams from the vessel manager are in contact with all the families involved, providing information and support, the Scorpio company said.
Voyage data and other information from the Sea Quest has been retrieved by investigators.
The vessel’s ultimate ownership is not known, according to Clarksons, but the single-ship entity controlling it is listed as Sofrano Maritime in the Marshall Islands.
The tanker has insurance cover through West of England.
Clarksons lists the vessel as being used for storage.
The ship is Scorpio Tankers’ former STI Ruby, sold in 2024.
Updates will be provided as more information becomes available, the manager said.
The company will undertake a full investigation into the cause of the incident, it added.
