Four more deaths were reported due to the overflowing Limpopo river in Chibuto district, Gaza province.
Two women died after being attacked by crocodiles while trying to harvest maize from fields before they were flooded. One of the women died in the Sede administrative post, locality of Maniquenique, village of Mondeiane, and the other in the village of Coca Missava, in Malehice.
The other two victims, a father and son, died when the vehicle they were traveling in skidded off a bridge over the Limpopo river in Sicacate. Work is still underway with a view to rescuing the bodies.
The four victims, whose age could not be determined, join the two registered in the village of Macarretane, in the district of Chókwè.
The Limpopo river continues to rise at a frightening speed, creating serious traffic problems in low-lying areas, such as on the road accessing the village of Maqueze through Chaimite.
Addressing the people of Gaza in general, Governor Margarida Chongo reiterated the need to leave flood-prone areas, while at the same time warning of the possibility of tropical cyclone Freddy passing through the province, in a route which is now better defined, according to data shared by the National Institute of Meteorology (INAM).
