Four people died and another three were missing after a boat capsized in Nacala-Porto, Nampula province, on Thursday (08-09).
The victims were travelling on a vessel carrying 21 people, including the helmsman.
Unofficial reports suggest that the incident was caused by strong winds.
Port agents surviving the accident immediately informed the Maritime Administration about the incident.
The Maritime Administrator of Nacala, Adamo Rachide, said that the four vessels mobilized for search operations rescued 14 survivors, including three minors aged between one and six years.
The source promised that the search for the three passengers still missing would continue.
At the time of our team’s departure from Praia de Sousa on Thursday, an ambulance from Nacala District Hospital was waiting to evacuate the victims for assistance, and the removal of the bodies of the deceased to the morgue was still pending.
The passengers on the boat were returning from a beach in Nacala-a-Velha district, where they were performing traditional rituals for the release of evil spirits.
