The Mozambican government is, thanks to financing from the World Bank, disbursing 97 million meticais (around US$1.5 million) for the construction of an office building for the Nampula delegation of the Agency for Integrated Development of the North (ADIN).
Construction of the four-storey building, the stone-laying ceremony for which took place this Wednesday, could take as long as 12 months.
The construction of the building falls within the scope of the Conecta Negócios [Connect Business] project, an initiative aimed at making economic connections between micro, small and medium-sized companies [MSMEs] and ‘mega-projects’ in this part of the country.
The Secretary of State for Nampula province, Jaime Neto, said during the ceremony that the building would help mitigate the impact of terrorist actions in the country’s northern provinces.
Neto added that one of the objectives of siting the building in Nampula was to bolster the population of the region, especially the young, against taking the path of terrorism.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of ADIN, Jacinto Loureiro, said that the construction of the ADIN building in Nampula was the result of government efforts to find solutions to peoples’ problems in the north of the country, especially that of terrorist action.
