The Confederation of Business Associations of Mozambique (CTA) and Kenya will organise a business forum to bring together business people from the two countries, the employers’ organisation announced on Wednesday.
“The parties have agreed to hold a business forum between entrepreneurs of the two countries as a platform to strengthen business relations,” the CTA announced in a statement.
The agreement was announced after a meeting between Agostinho Vuma, president of the Mozambican confederation, and Dorcas Bungei, head of the business section of the Kenyan embassy in Maputo.
“Although Mozambique has had its embassy in Kenya since 1994, it did not appoint an installation committee until October 2021,” the CTA noted, which considers that relations are “on the right track.”
Before advancing further details about the forum, a new meeting was scheduled on the sidelines of the Annual Conference of the Private Sector (CASP), the most important platform of the so-called “public-private dialogue” in Mozambique, from 23 to 25 March.
“Dorcas Bungei has ensured the mobilisation of Kenyan businessmen to participate in the XVII CASP,” the CTA concluded.
Kenya was the 34th destination of Mozambican exports in 2020, worth €6.6 million and the 50th origin of imports, with a value of €6.9 million.
