Virgília Bernarda Neto Alexandre dos Santos Matabele died in a health unit in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday, after a prolonged illness.
Born in Mocuba, Zambezia province, on August 14, 1952, Virgilia Matabele served as Minister of Women and Coordination of Social Action from 2000 to 2009.
From 1985 to 1991, she was head of the department of training and international coordination at the Secretariat of State for Tourism.
Virigilia Matabele was also head of the Human Resources Department at the Ministry of Commerce from 1991 to 1994, the year she was elected a Frelimo deputy.
She served as a Member of Parliament, as a member of the Commission on Constitutional Affairs, Human Rights and Legality and as Deputy Chair of the National Institute of Tourism (INATUR).
She was a member of the Central Committee of the Frelimo Party since the VII Congress, in 1997.
She was also non-executive administrator at Mcel.
