Mozambique: Cabo Delgado welcomed 53,000 tourists in 2024

Joao Po Jorge, the former director general of LAM Mozambique and current chair of AFRAA (African Airlines Association) and of AASA (Airlines Association of Southern Africa), Joao Po Jorge, has just been distinguished with the AviaDev Africa-2024 Award.
The award comes in recognition of Joao Po Jorge’s work and career building and stimulating air connectivity on the African continent.
The civil aviation engineer received the award at the AviaDev conference in Windhoek, Namibia, at the end of June.
Afterwards, João Pó Jorge noted that the African continent was home to 20% of the world’s population, but only 2% of its passenger flights.
Pó Jorge said that it was necessary to invest in civil aviation pilots and maintenance infrastructure, and to stimulate human resources.
The former Chairman of the Board of Directors of LAM said that, if more strategic investments were allocated to aviation, especially over the next two years, the sector could improve.
Only 300,000 of the more than 32 million inhabitants of Mozambique have access to civil aviation services.
