Several houses and roads in the city of Beira, Sofala province, have flooded, following the rain that has been falling since Wednesday.
Some residents forced to leave their homes report difficult times.
The impact is greatest in the Manga, Munhava and Macurungo neighbourhoods, they being in low-lying areas, with a greater proportion of houses of disorderly construction, and lacking drainage ditches.
Given the forecast of continuing rain throughout the province, it is expected that the urban flooding scenario will worsen.
Yesterday, teams from the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) were on site in residential areas of the country’s second largest city, assessing the damage.
