Mozambique: Floods and troubles in Mungassa, Beira – Watch

Residents of Mungassa are opening channels to drain the water that has completely flooded this city of Beira residential area.
The residents’ problems results from the lack of understanding of a local businessman, who started a landfill in the neighbourhood, obstructing the channels through which rainwater previously drained.
From dawn on this Wednesday, the Mungassa River overflowed and, finding no way out, the waters flooded homes.
Even though he found himself the target of residents’ ire, the Head of the Administrative Post of Inhamizua supported the local communities’ demands.
Some of the area’s residents were forced to abandon their homes in search of safety.
