The districts of Chicualacuala, Mapai, Chókwè, Guijá and Chibuto in Gaza province may be affected by flooding in the next 24 hours.
The potential fourth wave of flooding resulted from the overflow of the Limpopo River caused by the runoff of water from upstream countries.
The director of the Limpopo Basin Management Unit, Ivan Cuna, says the situation may result in the isolation of some communities, as well as destruction of agricultural fields and disruption of movement.
“Of the vulnerable areas, the highlights are the lowlands of Incoluanine and Guele Guele, in Mohambe; Tlhatlene in Chaimite; Sanjene, in Xilembene,” Cuna said.
“Some local roads, including the access roads to the village of Chivonguene, Incoluaninine, Maqueze, in Lhaquene, their situation will worsen, with flooding in some localized residences and in the retention basin.”
“Given this situation, we continue to urge people to observe precautionary measures when going to the river. We also warn that, at this time it is very dangerous to try to recover equipment from low-lying areas, because, as the flow develops, it may be possible to enter but not to exit, given the rising water levels,” Cuna’s warning concludes.
