A road accident involving five vehicles on Estrada Nacional Number 4 (N4) at Nó do Tchumene in Matola, Maputo province, on Monday night, left one dead and three injured, one of them seriously.
According to a statement from EN4 concessionaire TRAC, the accident occurred when a Toyota Hilux trying to overtake four other vehicles lost control and collided with a goods truck which then overturned, blocking the road.
“Subsequently, three other vehicles collided with the truck, resulting in the death of the truck driver, one seriously injured and two with minor injuries,” says a note seen by ‘Notícias Online’.
“The truck driver was trapped under the bags of charcoal he was transporting. As a result of the accident, there was congestion until 1:00 a.m. this Wednesday morning,” the document adds.
TRAC also reported another accident about 500 metres from the Tchumene Junction at around 2:20 a.m. on Monday morning, involving three trucks travelling towards Moamba, which blocked that side of the road.
“The accident resulted from one of the trucks driving at excessive speed, which then collided with another truck that was moving, resulting in a chain accident. The collision resulted in serious injuries to the driver of the first truck and extensive material damage to all vehicles. The vehicles were removed and the road reopened at around 5:20 a.m.,” the note concludes.
