The Pequenos Libombos and Corumana dams in Maputo province, Massingir and Macarretane in Gaza and Gorongosa dam in Sofala are to undergo maintenance work with a view to restoring their optimal operating capacity.
The work, valued at around US$30 million and financed by the World Bank, will consist of replacing vital elements such as embankments that have been compromised by the force of the water.
Delário Sengo, head of the Department of Water Works and Maintenance at the Southern Regional Water Administration (ARA-SUL), explained that the interventions will also cover floodgates and other discharge structures.
