Mozambique’s fisheries sector is concerned about thousands of tons of plastic that are thrown into the sea every year, endangering the health of humans and marine fauna.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, Maria Ascensão Pinto, has urged coordinated action between nations aimed at securing the sustainable and inclusive use of the oceans.
Permanent Secretary Pinto was speaking in Maputo this Wednesday at the opening of the Global Forum of the EAF-Nansen Program, an initiative to support efforts to develop sustainable fisheries management systems.
